Thunderstorms Move West Across Inland Valleys; Landspout Reported Between Sun City and Perris.

After four straight days of localized thunderstorms, heavy thunderstorm activity was at work again in Hemet, San Jacinto, Sun City, Murrieta and Temecula. A landspout was briefly active around 3pm between Sun City and Perris. The funnel could be seen reaching up to the sky, and was accompanied by lots of blowing dust. Traffic on Interstate 215 was snarled in both directions around the scene. Thunderstorms were not originally predicted west of the mountains Wednesday. The band of rainfall began moving westward in the 2pm hour Wednesday, and was accompanied by strong, gusty winds from the east. Dust was evident in spots, especially in the 3pm hour between Newport Road in Menifee and Highway 74 in Perris. Measurable rainfall was reported in Sun City on Sunday, Lake Elsinore on Monday and in Temecula and Murrieta on Tuesday. Many areas received spatterings of rainfall on the days surrounding Labor Day. |
