Thursday Morning Fire Update - Northern San Diego and Western Riverside Counties

Posted October 25, 2007, 6:38 AM.

There appears to be little change in fire conditions from last night's report. This should be another day of low-level smoke in much of North San Diego and Western Riverside counties, as the shift to onshore flow has brought back a lot of the smoke that was being blown out to sea. The other major weather change is a rise in relative humidities. Very warm or hot weather should continue today before declining tomorrow and Saturday.

This story will be updated today through about 7:30am. We've been receiving photos, including some of the sand aftermath of Sunday's sandstorm in San Jacinto, flames from the Poomacha fire, and smoke and devastation from the Rice Canyon fire. Unfortunately, we've not had time to get them posted; perhaps later today. If you've submitted a picture, thank you, we'll get to them soon. If you have one, please send it in.

All Riverside County fires are currently contained. No structures were lost in the 411 acre Rosa Fire in eastern De Luz, contained yesterday.

The latest San Diego County fire map is here, showing dwindling new activity over the past 24 hours. The most encouraging sign is the stalling of the Rice Canyon Fire in its advance north through the Red Mountain area towards the San Diego - Riverside County line.

The Poomacha Fire continues to burn on the slopes of Mount Palomar, to the west through Pauma Valley, and also to the south in the Rincon area.

Evacuation orders have not been lifted for Fallbrook, the San Diego County part of De Luz, or areas along Highway 76 affected by the Poomacha Fire. No part of Riverside County is under any immediate threat at this hour.
