A massive power grid failure affecting the San Diego region took WeatherCurrents' Fallbrook weather station offline Thursday afternoon.

The Fallbrook weather station transmitted its final update before the outage at 3:38pm. The restoration of power to the Fallbrook area, just south of the Riverside / San Diego county line, was unknown as of Thursday night.

WeatherCurrents' Fallbrook station is only the one of sixteen currently operating that is on the SDG&E power grid, which failed on another day of hot weather. Fallbrook had just recorded two straight days of triple digit heat, the first of the year in that community.

The power outage literally affected everything south of the Riverside / San Diego county line. On Interstate 15, the U.S. Border Patrol station, just inside Riverside County, remained open, while just a short distance away, a CHP truck station just inside San Diego County was dark.

Power remained on at all other WeatherCurrents' locations in Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.
