Storm Totals: December 15th-17th, 2016

By Reginald Stanley. Posted December 18, 2016, 1:53 PM.

A slow-moving, moisture-rich Pacific storm rolled through the region Thursday evening, bringing healthy rains well into Friday and Saturday morning.

The wetter locations received between 1 and just over 2 inches from the storm. In East Highland, 2.10 inches was reported (courtesy of Peter Michas). Of the WeatherCurrents stations, Fallbrook lead the way with 2.07 inches. Most of the Temecula Valley, San Bernardino and vicinity, as well as the typically wet Fallbrook community, all benefited the most from the storm. East of Temecula, 1.48 inches was reported in Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington). The eastern valleys generally fared less, with totals between 1/2 an inch and 1 inch. In East San Jacinto, 0.98 inches was reported (courtesy of Monty Parrott). To the south, San Diego's City Heights neighborhood received 0.42 inches from the storm. Anza had the lowest total, just 0.15 inches - typical for that part of the region. Anza receives greater rainfall from summer monsoon events and remains relatively dry during winter storms. An extended outage at WeatherCurrents' De Luz station meant storm totals for that location are not available.

The storm left behind a cold air mass in its wake. The rains helped bring December precipitation totals to near-normal amounts for much of the region. Weather is expected to remain seasonally cool this week. Rain is not currently in the forecast.
