A persistent, unseasonably cool long-wave trough over the West has resulted in additional showers across the region Sunday and Monday morning, further dampening an unseasonably cool and wet May so far.

Showers occurred throughout the day Sunday, where most communities recorded the brunt of the storm's precipitation. Lingering moisture carried over into Monday morning in many areas. Precipitation totals were mostly under 1/3 of an inch, with notable exceptions near Highland and Yucaipa, where WeatherCurrents contributors reported totals of 0.80 inches in East Highland (courtesy of Peter Michas) and 0.70 inches in Yucaipa (courtesy of Don Kramer). In the WeatherCurrents network, San Jacinto recorded the next highest total of 0.39 inches. Eastern valley communities including Perris, Moreno Valley, and Lake Elsinore also reached or exceeded 0.25 inches for the storm. East of Temecula, a total of 0.22 inches was reported in Temecula Valley's Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington), consistent with the total of 0.19 inches in nearby Temecula. Simi Valley, Pinon Hills, Beaumont (Cherry Valley), Murrieta, and Wildomar received the lowest totals for the storm, with Pinon Hills in last place with just 0.01 inch. WeatherCurrents' station in French Valley was offline during the storm.

Shower activity had mostly cleared out of the valleys by mid-day Monday, with remaining moisture being confined to the mountains Monday night. Sunny skies prevailed on Tuesday, and are forecast to continue for the remainder of the week as gradual warming commences. Temperatures are predicted to increase to near-normal by the end of May. No rain is currently in the forecast.
