Santa Ana Wind Gusts Up to 40 mph in Inland Valleys Saturday and Sunday

Winds in the inland valleys of Riverside and San Diego counties rose up fiercely Saturday morning and were likely to continue through Sunday. WeatherCurrents' Temecula station recorded a maximum gust speed of 40 mph Saturday in the 9am hour, although maximum gusts exceeded 30 mph several hours Saturday and early Sunday morning. WeatherCurrents' Murrieta location, despite a location that makes it less prone to Santa Ana winds, recorded a maximum gust speed of 27 mph on Saturday, in the 1pm and 2pm hours. De Luz, to the west of Temecula, had maximum gusts of 31 mph Sunday in the 8am hour. Sun City had 29 mph in the 1pm hour. Locations to the southwest were not as strong, with Fallbrook recording maximum gusts of 19 mph. Winds were also not as strong to the north and east, where Lake Elsinore recorded a maximum of 22 mph, and Hemet recorded a maximum of 20 mph. Riverside, which often takes Santa Ana events more severely, recorded a maximum of a mere 17 mph. |
