Southern California braced for yet another heat wave this weekend, in which temperatures so far have soared well into record-breaking territory since Saturday morning and are set to do so again on Sunday.

All active WeatherCurrents stations exceeded triple-digits Saturday, with Lake Elsinore leading the way with a high of 117 degrees this afternoon. For many locations, Saturday's highs were nearly matched by that of a similar heat wave in early July of 2018. Stations in De Luz and Fallbrook managed to break or tie their old record highs set on July 22nd, 2006. Riverside (Orangecrest) also broke its old record high of 109 degrees set on July 6th, 2018 while San Jacinto tied its record for that same date. For the majority of WeatherCurrents stations, temperatures Saturday were just shy of their old record highs set on July 6th of 2018. Very warm overnight lows, lack of marine layer influence and weak offshore flow all contributed to the extreme heat Saturday.

Temperatures are expected to spike again on Sunday, with the potential for more record-breaking high temperatures slightly increasing before temperatures drop somewhat during next week, although remaining well above normal.
