Triple-digits expected inland next week as heat wave descends upon Southwest

By Reginald Stanley. Posted June 10, 2021, 11:24 PM.

A strong ridge of high pressure developing over the Southwest states next week is expected to bring excessive heat to much of the region, with high temperatures soaring well past 100 degrees around mid-week.

The heat is forecast to peak around the middle of next week. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for the Inland Empire portions of Riverside and San Bernardino counties from Monday through Friday of next week. The National Weather Service has also issued an Excessive Heat Warning for both the high and low deserts through the same time frame, where temperatures are predicted to soar past 110 degrees. The latter warning extends inland as far west as Banning in the San Gorgonio Pass. The coasts, while not quite as warm, will feature high temperatures peaking in the 80s next week, allowing for a comfortable retreat for those seeking relief from the excessive heat inland. The heat wave follows a multi-week period of relatively mild weather in Southern California.
