Outlook: Next storm due at week's end

Posted November 15, 2010, 7:10 AM.

After a week that marked the first (late) Santa Ana winds of the season, onshore flow makes a gradual return this week, culminating with a storm next weekend.

Models are predicting that a large trough will slide slowly down the coast, landing in Southern California on Friday night. The system looks extensive and cold, but not terribly wet. So far, it looks like next weekend will be cloudy, showery, cool and breezy. The National Weather Service is currently conservatively putting rain chances at about 30-35%, and showers could last through next Monday. Expect the chances to rise as we get further into the week.

The system will probably be good for some mountain snow. Local resorts reportedly are beginning to manufacture snow, enabled by last week's cool nights.

The days leading up to the storm should be clear and mild, with cool nights, except for some morning marine layer in the Fallbrook area.

The last rainfall was about a week ago on Saturday, November 8th. Normal rainfall for November is about an inch in most inland valley locations.

Current forecasts show sunny conditions following the storm next week.
