The rain gauge at WeatherCurrents' Lake Elsinore location was finally replaced Saturday morning, after several months of down-time due to malfunction. WeatherCurrents operator John Toman and contributor Reginald Stanley aided in the rain gauge replacement Saturday.

The source of the malfunction was the rain gauge's reed switch, an electronic part located below the tipping bucket that had reached the end of its lifespan late last year. The entire rain gauge was replaced. WeatherCurrents' rain gauge at the Wildomar location is believed to have recently encountered the same problem, which will be replaced at an unspecified date in the near-future.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused in the mean time. Lake Elsinore frequently borrowed rain totals from nearby stations during storms, and the historical precipitation record for Lake Elsinore will have to be corrected through the 2014-15 season.
