Thunderstorms Register Rainfall Inland Sunday

Some of the remnants of former Hurricane Dean, combined with other monsoonal moisture, led to thunder and lightning and spotty rainfall across the inland valleys Sunday morning and afternoon. Some areas (Temecula, De Luz, and Fallbrook) received measurable rainfall in downpours; others (including Riverside, Perris, Hemet, San Jacinto, Lake Elsinore, Sun City and Murrieta) may have received trace rainfall but nothing measurable. Parts of the Temecula Valley received varying amounts, including some pea-sized hail. In northeast Temecula, 0.89" was recorded, with 0.15" in central Temecula and 0.05" at WeatherCurrents' south Temecula location. De Luz recorded 0.35" and Fallbrook 0.14". Temecula's rainfall was the first of the season. It's normal to get one or two instances of thunderstorms during summer monsoons. Thunderstorms are more common in the San Jacinto Valley, which was missed this time around. Drops of rain were also reported in Sun City, but not enough to measure a hundredth of an inch. Thunderstorms and rainfall are also possible Monday afternoon, according to the latest forecasts, but for the most part should be confined to the mountains and deserts.
