Storm Totals: December 24th-25th, 2008

Posted January 2, 2009, 4:56 PM.

The second of two Christmas week storms blew into town late Christmas Eve and left significant rainfall through Christmas Day, continuing a wet December.

Despite being the colder of the two storms, the Christmas storm was wetter. Rainfall was widely variable in Riverside and San Diego County's inland valleys, however, from a high of 0.85" in De Luz to a low of 0.07" in Perris.

The most significant totals for the storm were recorded in the Interstate 15 corridor from Temecula to Lake Elsinore. Temecula received 0.84", Murrieta and Lake Elsinore each received 0.62", and Wildomar got 0.49".

Fallbrook also received 0.49". Fallbrook is more often than not the storm total leader, but rainfall in the town has generally been less than in the Temecula Valley for the current season.

The Perris and San Jacinto Valleys fared the worst in the storm, with only 0.07" recorded in Perris, 0.09" in San Jacinto, and 0.17" in Hemet.

Interestingly, the Menifee station (in Sun City), a few miles south of the Perris station, received 0.33".

Moreno Valley was at 0.20" from the storm, close to Riverside's total of 0.23".

The storm was followed by freezing nights and mornings in many inland communities through Saturday.
