Wettest March in at least two decades across region

By Reginald Stanley. Posted March 25, 2020, 5:24 PM.

A seemingly unending wet pattern affecting the region this month has produced the highest March precipitation totals across parts of Southern California in at least twenty years.

In the WeatherCurrents network, March 2020 has been the wettest March at all stations to-date, including among the older stations in Temecula, Murrieta and Hemet. In Temecula, where precipitation records date back to 2000, March 2020 has already surpassed March 2003 as the wettest such month on record there. WeatherCurrents' stations in Murrieta and Hemet, both dating back to 2003, also recorded their wettest-ever Marches this year. According to records for Downtown Los Angeles, the last occurrence of a March nearly this wet was in March 1998, however Downtown Los Angeles still hasn't recorded as much precipitation this month as was recorded there in March 2003 and 2011. March 2020 is the wettest such month in San Diego since March 1998. The region also experienced very wet Marches in 1991, 1992 and 1995.

The rain may not be finished yet, either. A cold, weak storm is forecast to affect the region late Wednesday night and Thursday, although little rain is expected (if any). No additional rain is in the forecast after Thursday, allowing the region to dry out for the first time in a while.
