Storm Totals: April 12th-13th, 2020

By Reginald Stanley. Posted April 15, 2020, 4:46 AM.

An upper level trough brought a deep marine layer and scattered showers to the region on Sunday and Monday earlier this week.

Precipitation totals varied considerably, ranging from as high as 1.34 inches in Beaumont (Cherry Valley) to no measurable rain at all in parts of the Temecula Valley. Most communities that did record measurable precipitation received less than 1/3 inch. Beaumont (Cherry Valley) received an exceptionally high rain total, followed by Riverside (Orangecrest) with 0.36 inches, East Highland with 0.34 inches (courtesy of Peter Michas), and Yucaipa with 0.32 inches (courtesy of Don Kramer). The eastern valleys also received small amounts of rain, as well as Simi Valley to the northwest with 0.26 inches. The Temecula Valley was considerably drier, with only Temecula Valley Wine Country, French Valley and South Temecula recording measurable precipitation with totals of 0.04 inches in Temecula Valley's Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington), and 0.01 inch in both French Valley and South Temecula. In Orange County, 0.05 inches was reported in the city of Orange (courtesy of Dan). No measurable rain was recorded in Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, or Murrieta. Pinon Hills in the northern San Gabriel Mountains also failed to register precipitation.

Most shower activity on Sunday and Monday was confined to the mountains, foothills and coastal slopes, also favoring the eastern valleys and Riverside. Weak offshore flow entered the region on Tuesday, continuing into Wednesday. Low pressure could bring a chance of showers again on Friday.
