An extended dry period the region has been experiencing since the beginning of November may finally be interrupted this week, as a trough brings a chance of showers Tuesday and an additional low pressure system affects the region Thursday.

Persistent bouts of mostly warm offshore flow and high pressure have kept Southern California high and dry for the past month, however the pattern changes this week allowing for two low pressure systems to bring scattered showers to the region. High clouds had already begun spreading over the West Coast on Monday, with a rapidly deepening marine layer arriving late Monday evening. Tuesday showers are expected to be light, with precipitation amounts remaining mostly under 0.10 inches in the valleys and coasts, with slightly higher amounts possible in favorable foothill and mountain areas. After a brief dry Wednesday, another low pressure system is forecast to bring more widespread showers for Thursday, although precipitation amounts are currently predicted to be only slightly wetter than Tuesday. Snow levels are forecast to fall from 7,500 to 6,500 feet above sea level on Thursday.

From Friday through Sunday, gradual warming under building high pressure is expected, with dry weather prevailing.
