A post-Thanksgiving weekend storm gave the parched inland valleys some much needed rainfall late Friday and Saturday, with the amounts varying from a tenth of an inch to six tenths of an inch.
Although some showers began Friday night, most area residents woke up to rain on Saturday morning in the 5am and 6am hours. Another big batch of rain fell before noon, and showers trailed into the evening.
Some light showers also continued Sunday morning.
Totals were highest in the south, with Fallbrook leading the way at 0.65" through Sunday morning. Temecula followed at 0.62", then De Luz was next at 0.60".
Totals dropped off quickly to the north, with Murrieta at 0.28" and French Valley at 0.13".
The middle of Western Riverside County was mostly missed by the storm. Perris recorded just 0.02", Menifee 0.06", Wildomar 0.07" and Lake Elsinore 0.08".
Totals were relatively larger in the San Jacinto Valley. Hemet received 0.28" of rain and San Jacinto got 0.36".
WeatherCurrents' Riverside station received its first measurable rainfall of the season, recording 0.10" for the storm. To the east, Moreno Valley recorded 0.12".
The season has been a relatively dry one so far, with only a couple of storms to date. Temecula, for instance, was at only about a third of normal following the weekend storm.
An El Niño over the equatorial Pacific could change this winter into a wetter one.
