June finishes mild; July begins that way

Posted July 5, 2010, 4:16 PM.

Seasonally mild June temperatures are continuing into early July, and predictions for the month have July coming in normal, although the first week looks like more of the same.

According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, July's temperatures are expected to be normal. Longer term predictions are currently showing heat for the second full week of the month, however.

In many communities in the inland valleys, July is the hottest month of the year, closely followed by August.

July also marks the beginning of the monsoon season, although humid days and sporadic thunderstorms are more common in August. The first appearance of monsoonal moisture could be as early as this coming weekend, with some clouds possible over the mountains and deserts but no thunderstorms predicted.

For June, Riverside (83°F), Murrieta (80°F), Fallbrook (76°F), De Luz (76°F) were 3°F below normal. Temecula (81°F) and Menifee (87°F) were 2°F below normal. Lake Elsinore (90°F) was 1°F below normal.

Hemet (89°F) was 2°F above normal.

Stations in Moreno Valley, Perris, Wildomar, San Jacinto and French Valley were too young for comparisons.
