Warm weather comes to an end, some rain on the way

By Jim Purpura. Posted February 10, 2012, 8:32 AM.

After a spectacular day reminding us of spring weather to come, the strong high pressure ridge responsible is beginning to weaken, as a couple of storms approach.

Yesterday's high of 84 degrees at the WeatherCurrents station at Simi Valley was only 2 degrees shy of the nation's high of 86, recorded at Santa Ana and Imperial, California. Other WeatherCurrents station ranged from 79 degrees at Hemet and French Valley to 83 at Temecula and Lake Elsinore

The first storm will make its way across the area Saturday. The main effects will be cloudy and very cool weather, with light showers.

After a break in the weather on Sunday, the clouds and rain will return Monday and Tuesday as a second, colder system makes its way across the area. This system will bring snow levels as low as 5000 feet in the mountains, and possibly thunderstorms.

The first storm will only produce trace to a few hundredths of an inch of rain. Rain estimates for the second storm may be a bit heavier, and more variable in showers and thunderstorms.

The weather begins to improve beginning Wednesday, with warmer weather expected the rest of next week.
