The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the inland valleys from 10 AM Wednesday morning through 8 PM Monday evening - affecting all areas except for the higher elevations in the mountains - as a result of strengthening high pressure over the region.

Temperatures are expected to soar into the upper 90s to low 110s across inland communities over the next few days. Coastal communities are expected to remain cooler, although a Heat Advisory remains in place for these areas as well through 6 PM Saturday. The marine layer is forecast to stay roughly 1500 feet above sea level during the overnight hours in the coming days. Sea surface temperatures off the Southern California coast remain above-average for this time of year, keeping humidities and overnight temperatures considerably higher than normal for the time being. Strong high pressure may return late next week, ushering in additional extreme heat across the region. The National Weather Service advises everyone to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, keep out of the sun, and monitor relatives and neighbors during this period of high HeatRisk.
