Rain gauge issues: Murrieta and Moreno Valley

It became clear yesterday that we're experiencing clogs in rain gauges at WeatherCurrents' Murrieta and Moreno Valley locations, as heavy rainfall elsewhere didn't register correctly at those two stations. Moreno Valley was unclogged this morning but the rainfall amounts for yesterday aren't accurate. We'll be taking a look at Murrieta's rain gauge this afternoon. The problem there continues to this writing. Clogging is unfortunately normal during storms for automatic tipping bucket rain gauges, which funnel rainfall through a small opening and into one of two tipping buckets. The normal cause of clogs are bird droppings. As far as we can tell, all the other rain gauges are functioning normally through this deluge of rain. Very high totals in De Luz have been verified by manual rain gauges at the site. |
