Wet, unsettled weather to impact region this week

By Reginald Stanley. Posted March 7, 2021, 6:04 PM.

Periods of rain and mountain snow are expected for the region this week, particularly Wednesday and Thursday, as a large slow-moving area of low pressure brings cool, unsettled weather this week.

A deepening marine layer Sunday evening could bring scattered light precipitation in the form of drizzle late Sunday night into Monday morning, however any measurable precipitation is expected to be light. Onshore flow will remain for Monday and Tuesday, although this period will be drier. Increasing precipitation Tuesday evening is expected to become more widespread overnight, with heavier precipitation on tap for Wednesday and Thursday, as well as an increased chance of thunderstorms due to greater atmospheric instability associated with the incoming low pressure system. From Tuesday evening through Friday morning, rainfall totals are predicted to fall between 0.7 inches and 1 inch across the inland valleys and coastal areas, with locally higher amounts of up to 1.5 inches in foothill and mountain slopes. This storm system will be particularly cold, with snow levels forecast to drop as low as 3,500 feet above sea level. Showers could linger into Friday morning, before gradually dissipating throughout the day.

Warmer, drier weather is expected for the weekend following the storm's departure.
