By Reginald Stanley. Posted October 1, 2022, 2:36 AM.September 2022 was a strange month across the region, from record-setting heat early in the month to widespread rain from Tropical Storm Kay's remnants, a mild spell and then another heat wave late in the month. Monthly average temperatures ended well above-average across Southern California, as they also did for the month of August. September's heat was marked more by the very warm low temperatures both early and late in the month, keeping average low temperatures for the month well above normal more than the average highs were above normal. In Temecula, where records for September temperatures date back to 1999, September 2022 tied with September 2012 for the warmest such month recorded there, both with an average temperature of 76.7 degrees. September 2012, however, had a much hotter average high than in 2022 - but also a cooler average low. September 2022 was more defined by the significantly warmer low temperatures, with an average low of 66 degrees in Temecula - as opposed to 63.6 degrees in September 2012. Some of the other older stations in the WeatherCurrents network recorded similarly warm Septembers. In Fallbrook and Lake Elsinore, where records date back to 2004 and 2005 respectively, September 2022 was the warmest September recorded at both locations. At WeatherCurrents' station in Murrieta (where records for September date back to 2004), September 2022 was the second-warmest such month recorded there, behind September 2014. In East Hemet, September 2022 was only the fourth-warmest September on record - behind 2009, 2012, and 2020. Records for East Hemet date back to 2003. |
