Thunderstorms pushing west across region Saturday evening

By Reginald Stanley. Posted October 15, 2022, 6:39 PM.

Low pressure travelling east over Southern California has brought cool, cloudy, unstable weather to the region Saturday afternoon and evening.

Most of the region has experienced some amount of light rain or drizzle over the past 24 hours, measurable or not. An uncommon event, where thunderstorms have formed on top of a deep marine layer, has been taking place Saturday. The brunt of the thunderstorm activity has been confined to the mountains and deserts thus far, however the latter hours of Saturday evening saw this activity spreading over some of the inland valleys and even to some coastal areas. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the mountains and deserts this evening and tonight, where potentially very high rainfall rates are likely. West of the mountains, rainfall totals of up to 1/2 inch are possible in areas where rain does occur this evening and tonight. As of 6:30 PM Saturday, all active WeatherCurrents stations had recorded measurable precipitation with the exceptions of Simi Valley and Pinon Hills. Rain gauges at both Riverside WeatherCurrents stations are offline.

Low pressure will continue east towards Arizons late Saturday night, taking most of the moisture with it and diminishing further precipitation chances for Sunday onwards.
