Posted August 11, 2012, 3:32 PM.Thunderclouds have penetrated west of the mountains and are making Saturday afternoon interesting as they selectively target inland valley communities. The National Weather Service has issued severe thunderstorm warning in the Temecula Valley area, and another spanning Riverside, Moreno Valley, Perris and Menifee. Measurable rain so far has fallen in Perris (0.51"), Hemet (0.06") and Temecula (0.02"). Jim Ness, in Perris, reported 45 minutes of rain, thunder, and pea-sized hail. "The Perris station took a direct hit. I haven't seen a summer storm this intense in several years." Katy Parkhurst, in Sun City, reported thunder but no rain. "No moisture here. One of my neighbors said, 'God don't water rocks'". Brief power outages were experienced in Perris and Temecula. Claps of thunder could be heard throughout the region. The buildups in Riverside County originated in the San Bernardino and San Jacinto Mountains. A flash flood warning in in effect in the San Bernardino Mountains. |
