A cold front swept through Southern California late Halloween night, bringing scattered rainfall and cooler temperatures with it. Most of the rainfall occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday, November 1st. Few scattered showers have been sporadic in the 36 hours since.
Rain totals in the Inland Empire ranged from up to 0.87 inches in East Highland (courtesy of Peter Michas), to just 1/10 inch in Northwest Murrieta. Anza recorded even less with just 0.04 inches. Many WeatherCurrents stations in different cities recorded matching pairs of storm totals, a rarity. A notable total of 0.73 inches was recorded in Temecula Valley's Wine Country, courtesy of Jim Sappington. Most communities recorded between 1/3 and 1/2 of an inch.
The storm followed a very warm, dry October. In Temecula, where records date back to August 1999, the month of October 2014 was the second warmest October on record there, ahead of October 2003 but still behind October 1999. All 31 days of October 2014 registered at or above normal temperatures in Temecula.
The rain gauges at both Lake Elsinore and San Bernardino were not functioning properly, and storm totals are not available for those locations.
