Storm Totals: January 10th-11th, 2015

By Reginald Stanley. Posted January 12, 2015, 9:20 PM.

A slow-moving cut-off low pressure system brought rain to the region Saturday and Sunday, however timing allowed the storm to bring most of the precipitation to Los Angeles and Ventura counties on Saturday. The remaining moisture fell over the inland communities during daylight hours on Sunday.

San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties fared much less rain. Rain totals in the Inland Empire ranged from just 0.06 inches in Hemet, to 0.45 inches in Lake Elsinore. Northwest of Los Angeles, Simi Valley received a rather high 1.44 inches. The storm ignored the usual orographic rainfall patterns that typically distribute rainfall in the region during winter storms. Snow levels remained above 7,000 feet in the mountains.

Dense fog entered the inland valleys and foothills late Sunday night, and remained there into Monday morning. Drizzle from the fog contributed to additional 1/100 precipitation measurements at many weather stations in the region.

Season totals-to-date have stayed slightly above normal, and closer to average in some locations. WeatherCurrents station in Hemet leads the way with over 10 inches, helped by summer thunderstorms last year.
