Monsoonal moisture pushes west of the mountains Tuesday

By Reginald Stanley. Posted June 30, 2015, 2:47 PM.

The latest incursion of monsoonal moisture has made it west of the San Jacinto Mountains Tuesday afternoon, interrupting and dampening what was a hot, dry summer day.

Thunderstorms have been reported in the eastern portions of the Inland Empire, the Temecula Valley, and even the San Diego County coasts. WeatherCurrents' primary station in Temecula had already recorded over a quarter of an inch Tuesday afternoon, as a thunderstorm cell passed through the area. Reginald Stanley in Central Murrieta reported rain as well. Hemet and De Luz were also beginning to register rainfall. The thunderstorms have been accompanied by gust fronts as well.

Temperatures also plummeted quickly as clouds and humidity entered the Inland Empire. Temecula, Murrieta, French Valley and Wildomar experienced temperature drops of nearly twenty degrees in under an hour and a half. According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms are expected to continue pushing west through the region until at least 4 PM.

Thunder, lightning, gusty winds, and locally heavy rain are typical of such thunderstorms. Stay tuned into your local news outlet, the WeatherCurrents network, and the National Weather Service for more updates and safety precautions. The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for central San Diego County and southwestern Riverside County for Tuesday afternoon.
