A cold, wind-driven storm front brought much-needed rain and mountain snow to the region Sunday, along with cold temperatures and blustery winds at many locations.
Precipitation totals varied widely, with rain amounts in excess of one inch in parts of the Temecula Valley, yet less than 0.25 inches in Riverside, Moreno Valley and Perris. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, Jim Sappington recorded the highest total of 1.28 inches. WeatherCurrents stations in Lake Elsinore and Murrieta tied with amounts of 1.09 inches. The typically wet community of De Luz also recorded 1.05 inches.
On the drier side of the storm were some of the eastern valley communities, such as Perris, Moreno Valley, and San Jacinto. Presidential Park in Riverside recorded the lowest total, just 0.09 inches.
Due to the wind-driven nature of the storm, wind gusts were particularly high. Sustained winds in excess of 25mph were not uncommon across the region. The storm left behind a cold air mass, bringing subfreezing temperatures to many communities Monday and Tuesday mornings.
