Storm Totals: October 12th-13th, 2018 (updated)

By Reginald Stanley. Posted October 15, 2018, 1:34 AM.

A trough interacted with remnants of former Hurricane Sergio late last week, causing widespread thunderstorm activity over the region Friday and Saturday, before moving east.

Increasing clouds and sinking temperatures were observed Friday, just before thunderstorms moved onshore that evening and persisted through Saturday afternoon. Inland Empire residents were treated to a spectacular lightning show Friday night. Rainfall generally exceeded predictions of up to 1/2 inch across most of the region, with significant amounts as high as 2.12 inches in De Luz. Temecula, Wildomar and French Valley also exceeded one inch of rainfall from the storm. A total of 1.05 inches was reported in Temecula Valley Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington), 1.01 inches was also reported in East Highland (courtesy of Peter Michas) as well as 0.99 inches in nearby Yucaipa (courtesy of Don Kramer).

On the drier side of the storm, San Jacinto recorded a mere 0.36 inches total. This is in stark contrast to nearby East Hemet, where 0.89 inches was recorded. Simi Valley, northwest of Los Angeles, recorded 0.39 inches. This was Simi Valley's first rain of the 2018-19 water year.

Last week's cooler, unstable weather was replaced by warmer, drier offshore flow Sunday. This pattern is expected to continue through the end of the week.
