Closed low brings scattered showers Thursday

By Reginald Stanley. Posted September 26, 2019, 7:47 PM.

A closed low pressure system affecting the Southwest has brought an abnormal marine layer and scattered showers across parts of the region Wednesday and Thursday.

Scattered thunderstorms and showers have mostly affected the mountains and deserts, however some inland communities have reported small precipitation amounts through Thursday evening. On Wednesday afternoon, WeatherCurrents' station in Anza recorded 0.31 inches from a sudden thunderstorm over that part of the region. De Luz and Hemet recorded amounts of 0.02 inches each on Thursday, with San Jacinto and Anza both recording an additional 0.01 inch. Light rain fell in parts of Murrieta and Temecula mid-day Thursday, as well as 0.01 inch reported in Temecula Valley's Wine Country (courtesy of Jim Sappington). Cloudy skies and cool weather prevailed Thursday, with reverse-clearing occurring at the coasts.

Chances of measurable precipitation decreases west of the mountains Thursday night as the trough moves eastward over Arizona. Another trough is forecast to enter the region Saturday, deepening on Sunday before the trough weakens. Temperatures are expected to remain below average through early next week.
