Double tap storms hit region this Thanksgiving week

By Reginald Stanley. Posted November 27, 2019, 1:01 PM.

The first of multiple cold fronts is moving south over Southern California today, courtesy of an upper low over Northern California. Rain and mountain snow are expected through Friday as another colder front moves in Thursday evening.

Rain is already falling across most of the region as of noon today, following a windy morning. Inland valleys are predicted to receive between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain through Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service. Locally higher amounts are possible, especially in foothill and mountain locations. Snow levels today through Thanksgiving morning are between 4500 and 5000 feet above sea level, with snow levels lowering to between 3000 and 3500 feet Thursday night through Friday morning. Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for all mountain areas and passes through Friday, as well as Flash Flood Watches for the valleys through Thursday evening. Travel is expected to be highly impacted through mountain passes, including Interstate 5 through the Tejon Pass, Interstate 15 through the Cajon Pass, Interstate 10 through the San Gorgonio Pass and Interstate 8 near Campo.

Periods of heavy rain and wind are expected to impact the region this afternoon as well as on Thursday. Rain showers are forecast to clear out through Friday evening, before another storm system pass near Southern California again over the weekend, but not currently forecast to bring rain to the region. There is potential for yet another storm next week.
