Scattered showers and thunderstorms have appeared over some of the inland valleys and mountains each afternoon since Friday October 7th, mixed with a stubborn overnight marine layer that has held onto the region since the beginning of the month.
Daily temperatures across the region have generally been stagnant since October began, with near-seasonal daytime highs and slightly above-average lows that have been locked in by a persistent marine layer. A cutoff low pressure system, previously over the Gulf of California and now centered off the Southern California coast, has brought "warm" instability to the region in recent days - including but not limited to thunderstorms and showers, primarily over the mountains yet also occasionally over the inland valleys. Different communities have seen mostly small amounts of rainfall each afternoon, while the majority have not recorded any measurable precipitation. A heavy downpour was reported in Menifee on Sunday afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms and showers continued through Wednesday.
