A series of storms and disturbances since the end of December has delivered a string of rainy days across much of Southern California, with clear weather finally prevailing on January 6.
The storms were mostly showery in nature and not particularly powerful for the southern portion of the state, while the northern two-thirds of California were much wetter. The storm over January 4-5 was wetter, and featured more short bursts of heavy rainfall (mostly overnight) at most locations. WeatherCurrents' station in Simi Valley, northwest of Los Angeles, was the wettest location in the network for the duration of the series of storms, where nearly two of inches of rain fell in total since January 2. Eastern valleys were significantly drier than other inland communities, where cumulatively less than 1/3 inch fell since January 2. Other locations across the WeatherCurrents network ranged from 0.7 to 1.7 inches, with heavier precipitation being recorded largely during January 4-5. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, a total of 1.43 inches was reported (courtesy of Jim Sappington). In Yucaipa, a total of 1.22 inches was reported (courtesy of Don Kramer).
Clear but cool weather was slated to remain for the weekend, but more rain is forecast for early next week for the region. Season totals at many WeatherCurrents stations are quickly approaching or have already exceeded those of 2021-2022's season totals entirely.
