By Reginald Stanley. Posted January 7, 2024, 2:00 PM.A cold inside slider-type storm system delivered brief rain and a lot of wind to the region Sunday, along with limited mountain snow. The storm's main band of precipitation travelled down the state throughout Saturday, before reaching Southern California early Sunday morning. This storm had limited moisture and therefore precipitation totals were low - bringing more blustery winds than rain. Due to the storm's northwest flow as it entered Southern California, much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties were missed entirely by the rain. This flow changed direction as the low moved east of Southern California during daylight hours on Sunday, with winds turning offshore. There were isolated pockets of more persistent rainfall in parts of the inland valleys early Sunday morning, particularly near Redlands, Moreno Valley and Riverside. WeatherCurrents' station in Moreno Valley subsequently received the highest total in the network for the storm, with 0.21 inches. The majority of other locations inland received less than 0.15 inches, while Simi Valley and Pinon Hills both failed to record any measurable precipitation. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, 0.09 inches was reported (courtesy of Jim Sappington). Snow in the mountains was somewhat patchy - by mid-day Sunday, snow only remained on mountains closer to 6000 feet in elevation and higher, although light snow had fallen as low as the 4000 foot range overnight. The inside slider continued an overall trend of weak storms that had been periodically impacting the region and delivering generally light rain totals since mid-December, although January's storms so far have been colder. Mostly sunny skies prevailed following the storm's passage Sunday morning, along with gusty winds. A series of potentially very cold nights is in store for the region through the middle of the week, before several more weak disturbances affect the state late in the week. Here are the rain totals for the WeatherCurrents network and associates:
