Wednesday afternoon 5.4 earthquake latest in region

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake in the Anza-Borrego desert struck Southern California Wednesday evening. There were no reports of damage, but the quake, like many others this year, rattled nerves and was felt all over the region. The temblor occurred at 4:53pm, and was centered about 15 miles north northwest of Borrego Springs in San Diego County. Like a pair of smaller earthquakes on June 12th, this one was on the Coyote Creek fault, part of the San Jacinto fault zone. It was the strongest quake of the year in the San Jacinto fault zone. |
