Thunderstorms run across inland valleys Thursday (updated)

Posted July 16, 2010, 9:28 AM.

Thunderstorms surged past the mountains and dropped scattered rainfall in southwestern Riverside County and northern San Diego counties Thursday afternoon.

Lightning could be seen off and on for a few hours into the evening, as late as 8pm, as thunderclouds raced to the coast.

WeatherCurrents rain gauges in Wildomar (0.18"), Murrieta (0.14"), Temecula (0.07"), French Valley (0.09") and De Luz (0.05") all recorded rainfall as a cell pelted southwest Riverside County.

Reginald Stanley reported 0.58" in Eastern Murrieta, along with street flooding, between 3:30pm and 4:30pm.

Out in the Temecula Valley Wine Country, 0.07" fell, according to Jim Sappington.

Rain was also reported (0.04") in Fallbrook near the high school, although the WeatherCurrents station about three miles away didn't record anything measurable. Thanks to Amando Grillo for the report.

In San Jacinto, gusty winds were reported, breaking some tree branches and toppling trash cans, but no measurable rainfall, according to Monty Parrott.

Measurable rain missed most of northwestern Riverside county, leaving Riverside, Lake Elsinore, Perris, Moreno Valley, Hemet, Menifee, and San Jacinto with no rainfall for the season thus far.

The storm also caused power outages that impacted WeatherCurrents stations in Wildomar, San Jacinto and French Valley.
