Outlook: Normal July finish, August warmer than normal

Posted July 18, 2010, 9:56 PM.

The latest monthly outlook from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center predicts a hotter and drier than normal August ahead.

Despite last week's heat wave, the first of the summer, July to date is below normal in the inland valleys of Riverside and San Diego counties.

Temecula's average high, 87°F, was three degrees below normal. Murrieta (86°F), Fallbrook (80°F), Riverside (88°F) and De Luz (81°F) were five degrees below normal. Lake Elsinore (96°F), Menifee (94°F) and Perris (92°F) were four degrees off average.

Hemet (95°F) was one degree below normal, and Moreno Valley (92°F) was two degrees off its average.

A cooler than normal week was predicted, followed by an average week to finish out July.

The cooler than normal trend has played out most of the year to date.

Another interesting piece of the August outlook was a 33% chance of below normal precipitation, meaning that this year's monsoon season may not be as strong as usual.
