Extended Dry Period May End Tuesday Night

Posted February 14, 2006, 4:44 PM.

An extended winter dry period looks to be coming to an end with a 20% chance of light showers or drizzle Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. But any precipitation amounts are expected to be very light.

The dry weather has kept seasonal rainfall totals well below normal. As of Tuesday in Temecula 2.89" had been recorded since July 1st, 2005. Normal season-to-date rainfall is listed at 9.49", but that number is skewed from last year's exceptional season. An actual normal-to-date number is around 8".

Hemet has been the wettest to date this season in western Riverside County at 4.30", mainly due to a July thunderstorm. All other WeatherCurrents communities are above 3" for the season, less than half of normal.

Another shot at showers is possible President's Day Weekend, on Saturday and Sunday. The amount of moisture from that storm is not projected to be very high either. Another dry period might follow next week.

The last significant rainfall of the season occurred on January 2nd.
