By Reginald Stanley. Posted October 1, 2023, 10:44 PM.A low pressure system along the western United States brought scattered light showers to the region this weekend, along with daytime temperatures well below seasonal averages even for early Autumn. Following patchy drizzle and a deep marine layer Saturday morning, the main brunt of precipitation arrived Saturday afternoon when low pressure - at the time positioned near Reno, Nevada - spun a band of moderate-to-heavy precipitation along its southeastern flank, impacting Southern California during this time. Particularly heavy areas of precipitation affected the Cajon Pass, Devore, the San Bernardino Mountains, and areas in and around Beaumont and Calimesa. Parts of Orange County and coastal San Diego County were hit by moderate precipitation as well. Rain was generally very light in most other areas, where around 1/10 inch or less fell, however locally higher amounts near 1/4 inch did occur in some foothill locations inland. The majority of precipitation fell Saturday afternoon, while Sunday was much quieter at most locations. In the WeatherCurrents network, Temecula received the highest total with 0.14 inches, all of which fell on Saturday. Anza followed closely with 0.13 inches. In Temecula Valley's Wine Country, 0.29 inches was reported (courtesy of Jim Sappington) - that area possibly benefiting from orographic effects courtesy of nearby Agua Tibia Mountain to the south. WeatherCurrents' station in southern Temecula likely also benefited from this same orographic boost, albeit to a lesser extent than Wine Country. South Fallbrook was the only other station in the WeatherCurrents network to have recorded over 1/10 inches from the storm. Most other locations received much less, while Pinon Hills did not record any measurable precipitation at all. Gradual warming under building high pressure is forecast to take place beginning Monday, while offshore flow sets the stage for warm Santa Ana Winds to develop around the Wednesday-Thursday timeframe. Here are the rain totals for the WeatherCurrents network and associates:
