Brief Snowfall Reported Saturday Morning in Northeastern Temecula, Aguanga, Sage, Eastern Hemet (pictures, second update)

Posted March 11, 2006, 10:09 AM.

Between 6am and 7am Saturday morning, snow broke through the 2,000 foot level and fell in parts of Sage, Aguanga, Hemet, Beaumont and Banning, northeastern Temecula, and the Temecula wine country.

Three inches accumulated in Sage during the hour, and the accumulation stayed throughout the day above 3,000 feet.

Snow was also reported later in the day in Sage and briefly again in Temecula in the 5 o'clock hour.

Many foothills in the area were still clearly covered with snow at 10am Saturday morning, and snow remained visible in the foothills to the east from the Temecula, Menifee and San Jacinto valleys throughout the day. Rooftops in the upper parts of the Temecula wine country were also dusted with snow.

Snowfall was also reported in Valle Vista area of Hemet, in the eastern and higher part of the San Jacinto valley and in Beaumont.

Although snowfall was caught on video in northeastern Temecula, it didn't fall long enough for there to be any accumulation. Snow reportedly melted shortly after it hit the ground in Valle Vista.

This was the first time snow has fallen at these elevations in the inland valleys since November 21st, 2004, when there was an even wider snowfall event.

People with information about other areas not mentioned here that received snow should please pass along the information. In addition, please submit any relevant photos or video.
