Severe Thunderstorm Damages Roof in Lake Elsinore Friday (updated with photo)

CBS News has reported that heavy winds from a fast-moving severe thunderstorm damaged a shopping center roof and downed power lines near Lakeshore Drive and Diamond Drive in Lake Elsinore early Friday afternoon. The roof of the Family Health Center on Lakeshore Drive was badly damaged by the storm, which struck the area around 2pm. A news release from the Riverside County Fire Department also stated many trees were uprooted in the area. CBS News reported the storm as a mini-tornado, but the Riverside County Fire Department merely called the event a severe thunderstorm. The storm was highly localized; rainfall at WeatherCurrent's Lake Elsinore location at the north end of the lake was only 0.01". Another weather station in Lake Elsinore recorded 0.28" from the brief storm. Friday evening's baseball game at The Diamond was canceled in the storm's aftermath.
