Friday Rainfall Deluge Is a Record for Temecula, Close For Murrieta

WeatherCurrents stations in Temecula and Murrieta recorded either their wettest ever days yesterday, or came close to records, as a storm far exceeded predictions and dumped over 3" of rain on most parts of the Temecula Valley.

Temecula received 4.23", smashing the old record of 2.27", set on January 9th, 2005. Automated rainfall records for the Temecula location in the Redhawk area go back to November 8th, 2000. Manual rain gauge records for that location date back to 1995.

Murrieta received 2.99", near the record of 3.06", set on October 27th, 2004. For that northwest Murrieta location, yesterday was the second highest daily total recorded. Rainfall data for Murrieta dates back to November 22nd, 2003.

Other locations in Temecula also received tremendous rainfall. In eastern Temecula, near Highway 79 South and Anza Road, 4.51" was recorded for the storm through this morning (courtesy of Jim Sappington). In central Temecula, near Margarita and Rancho California Roads, 3.76" was recorded (courtesy of Keith Newman).

The rainfall totals in Temecula for the day were amazingly in excess of entire season totals for 2006-2007 and 2001-2002, which were 3.75" and 3.87", respectively.
