Storm Totals: December 16th-17th, 2014

By Reginald Stanley. Posted December 19, 2014, 8:06 AM.

A series of Pacific storm fronts swept down California this week, although becoming weak and fizzling out upon entering Southern California.

The first storm entered the region late Monday night, however the system lost nearly all of its moisture east of Ventura and fizzled out. Most communities received less than 1/10 of an inch, if any rain at all. The second storm was much wetter, which arrived early Wednesday morning. Isolated showers continued over the Inland Empire throughout the day, with occasional downpours in some areas, due to thunderstorm convection. The storm had departed the region by Wednesday evening. Combined precipitation totals for both storms ranged from up to 0.84 inches in Cherry Valley, to just 0.02 inches in San Diego's City Heights. Most communities in the WeatherCurrents network received between 0.25 and 0.50 inches.

The series of storms continued an active December for Southern California, keeping seasonal rainfall-to-date above season averages for the time of year. Another storm, although weak, is set to impact the region Friday night. High pressure is expected to rebuild afterwards, keeping the region mild and dry through Christmas Day.
