By Reginald Stanley. Posted August 31, 2022, 11:30 PM.Southern California baked on Thursday as temperatures soared across the region, in many case well above 100 degrees across the inland valleys Thursday afternoon. An Excessive Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service is slated to remain in effect for most of Southern California through 8 PM Tuesday. Widespread hot temperatures, near and above triple-digits away from the coast, are forecast to persist every day into early next week. Hot temperatures had already arrived in some inland locations by Wednesday, spiking even hotter the following day. In the WeatherCurrents network, eleven out of fourteen active stations reached or exceeded 100 degrees on Thursday - and other three all reached 99 degrees. Lake Elsinore was the hottest location with a sweltering high of 114 degrees Thursday afternoon. Murrieta followed close behind with 112 degrees, somewhat uncommon - although not unheard of - for that location. The eastern valleys saw temperatures at or just below 109 degrees, while Temecula recorded its first 100 degree day of 2022 so far. Warm overnight temperatures, mostly in the 70s inland, will follow through the weekend. |
