A fast-moving storm ended a tranquil Christmas day with overnight rain in the inland valleys, departing by Sunday afternoon as quickly as it came, and padding soggy December rainfall totals.
Estimates before the storm were for up to a half of an inch of rainfall, and the storm did not disappoint. De Luz had the highest total, with 0.47", and Riverside the lowest, at 0.17".
Most WeatherCurrents stations plus other tracking sites in Western Riverside and Northern San Diego counties recorded a quarter of an inch or more.
The rainfall was mostly light, and it ended with some drizzle on Sunday morning, according to a report from Monty Parrott of San Jacinto. The front was colder than the nearly-weeklong storm that preceded it, and snow levels in the local mountains were near 5,000 feet.
Other significant rain totals were recorded in Fallbrook (0.39"), Wildomar (0.39"), Lake Elsinore (0.36"), Eastern Murrieta (0.32"), and Temecula (0.31").
Only a two day interlude was predicted before the arrival of the next storm late Tuesday night. The next storm was expected to be even colder, with snow levels falling to 4,000 feet, and another half of an inch of rain. Yet another storm was shaping up for just after the new year, and would be the coldest of the sequence.
