Heavy rains hit region this week

By Reginald Stanley. Posted December 23, 2016, 4:22 PM.

Two slow-moving low pressure systems brought rain, wind, and even some thunder and lightning to the region this week. Minor street flooding was reported in some inland communities Wednesday night.

The second storm was a cut-off low that pulled subtropical moisture from the south, bringing more rain than expected. Several rounds of heavy rain hit the region Wednesday night and Thursday morning. Isolated thunder and lightning strikes were reported in the Temecula Valley, as well as Hemet and San Jacinto. Lingering showers continued into Friday, as a third, colder storm arrives from the north. Snow levels are expected to drop to around 3,500 feet above sea level. Storm totals for all storms will be posted within a day or two.
