Grass Fire Burns 205 Acres in French Valley

A grass and brush fire in French Valley burned 205 acres Tuesday afternoon, closing Winchester Road before being contained later the same afternoon.

The fire was reported in the 2pm hour and quickly grew across dry brush on a cool but breezy spring day. Containment was reported at 3:30pm.

Parts of Winchester and Pourroy Roads near Scott Road were closed. The affected area was north of Temecula, southeast of Menifee, south of Winchester, and southwest of Hemet, not far from Diamond Valley Lake.

All roads were open again by the evening.

The Riverside County Fire Department reported that 135 firefighters were quickly on the scene to slow the spread of the fire. No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.
