Temecula Data Provided to National Weather Service

Posted March 1, 2005, 10:44 PM.

About a week and a half ago, right before the most recent storm series, WeatherCurrents began automatically spooling weather data from its Temecula weather station into the National Weather Service's computer systems each hour.

Data from Temecula will now be directly viewed from within the NWS systems, and will be used to increase the accuracy of local weather forecasts.

Until now, Temecula data was called in once a day from the fire station in Old Town Temecula. During weather events, meteorologists accessed WeatherCurrents.com directly when required.

WeatherCurrents wrote the software required to interface its systems with the NWS server in San Diego.

The National Weather Service plans to use data from other WeatherCurrents sites in the near future.
