Mid-level Moisture Brings Only Light Showers, Sprinkles Saturday

Posted August 23, 2009, 10:51 AM.

Monsoonal moisture, absent for much of the summer, showed up suddenly Friday and Saturday, with mostly disappointing results in the parched inland valleys.

Sprinkles, light rain and elevated humidity were all that transpired on Saturday. Sprinkles were reported Saturday morning in Menifee, Sun City, Temecula, Murrieta and Lake Elsinore, and probably occurred in other communities.

Lake Elsinore recorded the season's first measurable rainfall for the thirteen WeatherCurrents stations, registering 0.01" in the 9 am hour on Saturday. No other precipitation was heavy enough to register.

Some coastal communities got a dose of light showers on Friday afternoon, including those in San Diego and Orange counties.

Residual moisture and humidity was still around on Sunday, but thunderstorms weren't predicted to drift west of the mountains. The rest of the upcoming week looked to be drier.
